ALUMNI REPRESENTATIVE TO

CAU BOARD OF TRUSTEES

ALUMNI
ENGAGER

Trustee Hill knows that alumni engagement is one of the most important components for fundraising and creating friends of the University.

Trustee Hill believes that alumni create CAU's reputation through our shared successes and how we sustain our alma mater with our donations, thus enhancing the value of our degrees.

As our alumni representative on the Board of Trustees and Board of CAUAA, she fulfilled the promise that you could be confident in her continuing to stress the importance of effective alumni engagement.

Simply put, Trustee Hill has offered a level of transparency, representation, and accessibility in this position that has never been performed by an Alumni Representative to our Board of Trustees. She has always been focused on what matters to the Institution’s long-term sustainability and went into this role intent on being a value-add to our Board of Trustees.

If you have been present in our National Meetings or received her communication to alumni, you have witnessed the high level of detail, thoroughness, and information that she has provided in reports. You know about the proposals that have been made or approved. You know about the courageous advocacy she has offered. She is not afraid to constructively challenge and speak up on important issues, even if they are uncomfortable or unpopular – while also remaining supportive of the administration and fellow alumni leaders.

Many of you have experienced her being the guest of a Chapter for a National Forum, Chapter Meeting, or she just showed up for your Chapter Meeting to show her support and to let you know how much she values our Chapters. They are the foundation of our Association and she sees you.

Prior to serving in this role, Trustee Hill built a reputation that makes it difficult for you to turn her down when she's soliciting support for CAU, and you can always count on her to "toot our horn", as well as keep you informed about CAU.

Trustee Hill realizes the strategic importance of playing the numbers game to reach our alumni and creating a system that allows for consistent communication with your constituency. In addition to asking if you are engaged, she is also going to collect your contact information and add you to her extensive network of CAU contacts.

Before the emergence of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other forms of social media, Trustee Hill was creatively reaching alumni and encouraging them to also share information with their alumni networks. Today's social media tools have allowed "TrustE" Hill to continue her alumni outreach and effectiveness as a Trustee and alumni leader.

PROGRESSIVE TRENDSETTER

Trustee Hill is a courageous voice who confidently articulates the needs and priorities of the CAU alumni community. By developing impactful and transformative programs, Trustee Hill’s accomplishments in the CAU alumni community have set standards to effectively educate, encourage, and reclaim alumni.

Because of her ingenuity, influence, creative outreach, and trendsetting marketing strategies, Trustee Hill is often sought-after by fellow alumni to assist with fundraising and program development efforts. Examples of these collaborations would be her marketing efforts for the Beta Psi 1923 Foundation Brick Campaign, her ongoing marketing efforts and support for the MRTC Foundation, and of course, the Class of '83 fundraising in support of CAU students.

This website and the social media accounts also created for this campaign, are perfect examples of how Trustee Hill changes the game.  In 2017, this was the first website ever created by a candidate running for office in the CAU Alumni Association and it has changed the way alumni share their story, brand themselves, and campaign - on the local and national levels.

Trustee Hill presents to our Board of Trustees with the recurring theme that "Alumni Concerns Are CAU Opportunities." Be sure to visit the Blog and the "Promises Fulfilled" tab to see the detailed documentation of her advocacy, representation and RESULTS.

Some of the other innovative, unique and engaging activities implemented under her leadership, as a Chapter President, with her classmates, and in her organic/grassroots manner are:

  • Her innovation as a leader was prevalent as the Atlanta Chapter was significant in helping to raise $48,000 within two months during the summer of 2016 for football scholarships.

  • Training for Atlanta alumni on "How To Be An Effective Alumni Fundraiser", presented by alumna Lisa Wilson.

  • Financial support of Spirit of Greatness Gala, President Johnson's Inaugural Gala, and Jazz Under The Stars with the purchase of tables by the Atlanta Chapter.

  • Day Party to generate memberships and celebrate National Alumni Day.

  • Addition of "Student Spotlight" segment to Atlanta Chapter meeting agenda that features and presents CAU students.

  • Unity Tailgates with Tuskegee Atlanta Alumni Chapter and Morehouse Alumni.

  • Tailgating at Panther Football games.

  • Partnership with Kenny Leon's "True Colors Theatre" to host CAU Nights.

  • Atlanta Chapter celebrated "Raymond Tweet Williams Day" by honoring this esteemed alumnus for his 70+ years of dedication to CAU.

TRANSFORMATIVE LEADER

For many years, Trustee Hill has applied her leadership style of creating change in individuals and systems by assisting individuals, community groups,  and businesses in defining and fulfilling their objectives.

She believes in developing the team players who help a leader to fulfill their vision and create change so that the team is equipped, committed, and inspired to do the same as leaders.

In all of her alumni leadership roles, Trustee Hill has leveraged her business acumen, relationships with alumni in every decade, and grassroots approach to engagement, to exponentially exceed goals while improving Chapter contributions to the University, scholarships given, individual contributions, revenue streams, brand presence, and financial assets. Trustee Hill presents to our Board of Trustees with the recurring theme that "Alumni Concerns Are CAU Opportunities." Some of her accomplishments and advocacy as Trustee include:

  • Collaborated with Institutional Advancement to pass resolution that created a policy exception to minimums required for endowments. Helps increase alumni endowments and increase giving percentage.

  • Made introduction for a Campus Safety Donation by an alumnus, that resulted in installation and integration of prototype security system. The value of the gift is at least $250K. Supports the "Technology & Infrastructure" pillar of current Capital Campaign.

  • Engaged President of CAU to advocate with group of alumni concerned about CAU Athletics.

  • Proposed creation of Ad Hoc Committee for CAUAA to enhance operational integrity and improve chapter development. Approved by Board. Trustee Hill also serves as Chair of this Committee.

  • Shared concerns to advocate on behalf of Alumni that resulted in Commencement return to Stadium. Advocacy continues for Commencement/May Weekend activities to return to schedule of last 51 years.

We've witnessed the impact of her work to engage alumni across the country, however Trustee Hill also sets a stellar example of creating loyal alumni by serving as an alumni mentor.  She has mentored many students through the years. Trustee Hill believes it is important for students to see what it means to be a part of the alumni community. These alumni-student relationships also enhance the alumni experience, thus improving alumni engagement and creating an ongoing reciprocal relationship for CAU.

Under her leadership, the Atlanta Chapter actually had members who lived in several other states.

Through strategic planning and a cohesive team-building approach, she's managed to deliver effective strategies that achieve real results as a leader in her community, professional career, and alumni activities.

She also understands the importance of partnerships with the Office of Institutional Advancement, Alumni Relations, and inclusion of alumni from every decade as you compel alumni to also give back in time and treasure.
